ERHA Funding Opportunities

The ERHA Funding Opportunities

Following the sad news of Peggy's death in 2010, it was good to know that her name and involvement in hockey in East Region would live on through the monetary legacy Peggy left (£5,000).

With Peggy's huge involvement in Youth Hockey (amongst other things) the Committee felt that Peggy would be very upset if she learned that some Youth players could not play hockey and develop their talents purely as a result of cost.

It was felt therefore that the "Peggy Nisbet Legacy" should be best used by way of an award to young players/umpires/technical officials who require help in funding their development.

Since the creation of the legacy the Junior Development Fund via England Hockey's 1908 fund has also become available but this is related to players that have difficulty in paying fees to join higher levels of the Player Pathway and is not open to the wider audience.

As such the East Region Hockey Association recommend that the "Peggy Nisbet Legacy" be made available on the following basis:

1. Open to any youth member up to U18 who are looking to develop their hockey career
2. Application to be made on appropriate form to East Region Vice President supported by their Player Pathway County Administrator or equivalent within County Umpire Association
3. Maximum total award to be £500 per annum
4. No restriction on individual amounts applied for within this total but allocation of award to be solely at the discretion of the sub group established to administer the funds.
5. Should the number of allocations received in any given year not reach £500 then any surplus to be held over to the next year.
6. Applications will open each year on the 1st November and close on 30th November.
7. Applications likely to be received for contributions to entrance fees for development coaching through the Player Pathway, personal kit or courses relevant to development training although this is not exclusive.
8. Successful recipients will not be openly publicised but will be available on request from the County Administrators.

The Elden Award

East Hockey has received a very kind donation from the Elden family in memory of Sheila and Reg - Sheila's husband who supported Sheila and encouraged her in all that she did for Suffolk and East Hockey.
Sheila played a huge part in East Hockey in many roles over the years.
This donation has given the East Region Hockey Association and Suffolk Hockey Association (half the money for each organisation) the opportunity to help fund developments that fulfil certain criteria:

1. The project will develop coaching across any area of the game - especially umpiring, technical delegates coaching etc. and across the whole of the East Region or within a County or Club within the East Region and in particularly in Suffolk. The family of Sheila and Reg are keen that the awards support young people or projects aimed at young people.
2. The proposed project could be aimed at adults or young people although it is recognised that there is a great need for more quality coaches and umpires in the junior game.
3. Proposals that seek matching funding from other sources (from Clubs, Counties, other associations or individuals) will be considered.
4. Individual applications for funding will be considered provided they are supported by a club, county or region.

Although the group who will decide on how the monies are awarded will look to spread the sum donated over a number of years, each application will be considered and awards will be decided on merit.

A completed form which is available here should be forwarded to the President of the East Region Hockey Association -
